Restriction of Hazardous Substances — EU directive limiting toxic materials in electronics.
RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is an EU directive (2011/65/EU) that restricts the use of specific hazardous materials in electrical and electronic equipment. The restricted substances include lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE, with four additional phthalates added in the 2015 amendment. Compliance with RoHS is a prerequisite for CE marking of electronic products in the EU.
