Product Safety of Electrical Appliance — mandatory mark for electrical products sold in Japan.
PSE (Product Safety Electrical Appliance and Materials) is Japan's mandatory safety mark for electrical products. The PSE mark comes in two forms: a diamond-shaped mark for specified controlled products (requiring third-party testing) and a round mark for other electrical products (self-declaration). All electrical products sold in Japan must bear the appropriate PSE mark, and foreign manufacturers must appoint a registered importer in Japan.
Examples
- • A Chinese manufacturer selling power banks to Japan must obtain a diamond PSE mark through testing by a registered Japanese certification body.
- • USB chargers and AC adapters sold in Japan require PSE marking; products without PSE can be seized by Japanese customs.
- • Foreign sellers on Amazon Japan must ensure their electrical products bear PSE marks and provide proof of compliance upon request.
