VAT and GST threshold calculator

Enter rough annual sales to see how far you sit from the modeled registration thresholds. Establishment matters: domestic thresholds usually protect only locally established businesses, while overseas sellers often have no threshold at all. Figures stay in your browser.

Where is your business established?

Domestic registration thresholds usually apply only to locally established businesses. Overseas sellers often face a zero threshold instead, so the same sales figure can read very differently.

United States: state thresholds need state-level sales

There is no single US threshold. Economic-nexus tests run state by state, so a national total cannot answer them. The thresholds currently modeled:

This calculator compares the figures you enter with modeled registration thresholds. It does not decide whether you must register, collect or file, and it does not cover stock-related triggers. The free self-check reviews channels, stock and imports together.

Common questions

Why does the calculator show a zero threshold for overseas sellers?

The UK £90,000 threshold applies to UK-established businesses, and the EU €10,000 threshold to EU-established ones. A non-established seller making taxable supplies, such as selling goods held in the country, generally registers from the first sale.

Which US threshold should I use?

None on a national total. US economic nexus runs state by state, with different amounts, periods and transaction tests. Export state-level sales before drawing any conclusion.

Does staying below a threshold mean nothing to do?

Not by itself. Stock in a market, marketplace rules and import treatment can create obligations below any turnover threshold. Those interactions are what the free self-check reviews.
