GST Identification Number — India's 15-digit tax registration number.

GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) is a 15-digit unique identifier assigned to businesses registered under India's GST regime. GSTIN is state-specific and required for all B2B transactions, GST filing, and e-commerce marketplace sales in India. Foreign sellers selling into India may need to register for GST and obtain a GSTIN if they store inventory in India or exceed the threshold.

Examples

  • A seller on Amazon India must have a valid GSTIN to list products; Amazon requires GSTIN for all sellers except those in the GST exemption category.
  • GSTIN is linked to the seller's state of registration; selling from multiple states may require multiple GSTINs.
  • B2B invoices in India must include the GSTIN of both the supplier and the recipient for Input Tax Credit purposes.
